Cayla Cummings

Cayla Cummings worked at the Wolbach Library from August 2021 to February 2022 as a graduate student in California State University Fullerton’s Department of History. She had previously received her Bachelor of Arts in History and Art at Texas Southern University in Houston. As the Research Intern for the Elevating Observers of the Night Sky Initiative, Cayla conducted original research on the historically excluded cultural astronomies of Mesoamerican civilizations and the historical impact of colonialism in the field of astronomy. She also curated her research and other historiographical content using OpenScholar to create a preliminary web platform for the EONS website. Her field of focus for her master’s thesis is the history of racial hybridity and the social construct of race in the United States between the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
