Elevating Observers of the Night Sky is a collaborative digital history project that aims to connect people with resources that help them understand and appreciate different astronomical cultures from the perspective of those community's cultural knowledge holders. We also hope to help astronomers meaningfully engage in conversations about how colonialism and racism have been, and continue to be, facets of astronomical pursuits.
The project’s initial focus is to compile collections of open resources to contextualize asterisms from outside the officially recognized Western-majority traditions. To start this work we have decided to focus on the astronomy of Abya Yala and cultivating connections with communities there whose stories we can elevate.
