Elevating Observers of the Night Sky

Elevating Observers of the Night Sky is a digital history project at the Wolbach Library which aims to connect people with resources to help them understand and appreciate different astronomical cultures, as well as meaningfully engage in conversations about how colonialism and racism have been, and continue to be, facets of astronomical pursuits.

The project’s initial focus is to create collections of open resources to contextualize asterisms from outside the officially recognized Western-majority traditions. We will also be gathering oral histories from Indiginous people and active astronomers. To start this work we have focused on the astronomy of Abya Yala.
