Branching. Merging. Squashing. Bisecting. Power users of the Git version control system seem to love it, but sometimes they might as well be speaking a different language. Have you been trying to understand what all their fuss is about? This hands-on tutorial will introduce the core concepts of how Git works, basic everyday Git workflows, and the extra conveniences and features provided by the commercial GitHub platform. No prior experience using Git is required, but in advance of the tutorial, make sure that Git is installed on your laptop and that you have a (free) account on GitHub set up. Basic familiarity with the Unix command line and code editing will be assumed; please contact the presenter (pwilliams@cfa.harvard.edu) in advance if you would like to check your level of preparation.
