Muriel E. Seyfert

Muriel Elizabeth Seyfert (née Mussells) (1909-1997) was an American Astronomer whose prestigious career focused on identifying nebulae within the Milky Way Galaxy. She attended Radcliffe College for her undergraduate degree, graduating in 1931. Mussells Seyfert worked at the Harvard College Observatory from 1927-1936.

She was born in Danvers, MA to George Albert Mussells and Stella Frances (nee Gifford). By 1920, they and their six children had moved to Reading, MA. In 1935, Mussells Seyfert married Carl Keenan Seyfert, a fellow astronomer, in Boston. He became the director of the Vanderbilt Observatory in 1946. They had two children. She passed away at age 88 on November 9th, 1997 in Hall, Georgia.
